Marvel heißt doch staunen!? Ich wollte damit aussagen, das ich mich sehr über euren Einsatz staune. Ihr seid mir eine große Hilfe und ich freue mich darüber. Das macht mir sehr viel Spaß auf diese Art und Weise zu lernen. Daher ein großes Lob an euch.
Ich habe noch sehr große Schwierigkeiten mich richtig auszudrücken, daher wird es noch öfter vorkommen, dass ihr mich nachfragen müsst um den Satz überhaupt zu verstehen. Ich denke noch viel zu deutsch.

Either "marvel" or "amazed" would fit fine in that sentence. "I marvel at your commitment." or "I'm amazed by your commitment."
(I'd change "engagement" to "commitment," though, as engagement (without "in <whatever>" after it) typically means engagement to be married.)

I'd say the smiley was just a friendly gesture. I use them quite a lot without actually thinking about a possible ambiguous meaning.

Mine was not a criticism of your use of smileys but a sincere question. I cannot read or interpret the use of facial expressions intuitively, and that also applies to smileys to some extent. So I have to learn by asking what was meant by it, if it isn't directly obvious to me.
But you don't have to change your idiomatic use of emoticons just to accommodate me as long as the normal people around here understand what you mean.
