Huhu,
ich wollte gerne wissen
ob ich die sätze richtig umgestellt bzw.umgewandelt
habe..


Die Aufgabe lautet :change the underlined participle construction into
relativ clauses (with who or that) or into clauses which begin with 'when'
or with 'as/because'



1) Not knowing the way,we stopped to ask someone.

-->When we not knowing the way,we stopped to ask someone.
oder muss es heißen 'when we not know the way'?


2)Hearing the news that our team had won,we all cheered.

Bei dem Satz bin ich mir nicht sicher..Ich hoffe auf schnelle
hilfe..

One thing to consider is that the difference between using "when" vs. "as/because" is that "when", in these contexts, is usually pointing to specific event, which occurs at a specific point in time.

For example, I could NOT take this sentence...

"Being very short, he could not reach the shelf."

and make it:

"When he was very short, he could not reach the shelf."

We can't do this because "being short" is not really something that happens at a particular moment in time. Rather it is an enduring quality of the person in the sentence.

On the other hand, we could very well phrase it as such:

"As he was very short, he could not reach the shelf."

or

"Because he was very short, he could not reach the shelf."



Does this clarify the issue?
