There are many unresolved problems in our world, which must be solved. All of us know about, but only a few employ with them truly. One problem makes me very sad: homelessness. Because while some people live in abundance, some others live apparently at the lowest level of human existence in our time and society, you can crash into. And there are many reasons for the descent into homelessness.
For example, lose one´s job, cancellation of the flat, violence in relationship and family, to be in dept, addiction like alcoholism or drug addiction. In this way people can´t pay their bills or sold all their property to finance an addiction, finally even their own accommodation. Kids and teenagers become homeless, because of difficulties in family. Nevertheless, this
Homelessness is usually of short duration. Besides man come faster in this situation, because women are mentally stronger and thus not easily fall into depression. However, if they are first on the road, the men are more capable of dealing in this situation. But homeless doesn´t only mean to have no accommodation. There´s a little bit more behind. People, which sleep rough, have more than a few problems in their daily life. Physical violence, robbery, sexual harassment and crime. Certainly the most important points are the daily struggle about surviving and never to quit with themselves. They have to cater food by begging walkers and to search a place for sleep, which is safe and warm. In order to help them there are soup run´s.
That's the only place to get a warm meal and coffee without paying money. Volunteers make it possible. Other helpers are outreach workers. They try to help with many things: give homeless people clothes thereby they get more self-esteem, search a place in a hospital when they are ill or injured, talk with them about problems and personal stories. But the main point is to help by starting a new regulated life with a job, an accommodation and a good future prospect. This isn´t an easy way, because some homeless people hide from others through fear for reaction of people and be ashamed of themselves. They also called ‘hidden homeless’, which sleep in bed and breakfast hotels, in friend’s floor, in the underground and in trains early in the morning.
There are many people, which live on the breadline between homelessness and a normal live. This is the reality of our today´s society. Just imagine it! Well, we have to advocate for homeless people like subscribing money at social facilities or working as volunteers. Maybe we can change thereby our society in a better one, without poverty and homelessness.
