Martin Luther King ..
was born on the 15th of January 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. His father was president of the National Advancement of Coloured People. It's the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organisation in Atlanta. Martin Luther King was actually born as Michael Luther King but in 1934 the father changed both names into Martin Luther King in honour of Martin Luther. King got the rasicsm felt early.He wasn't allowed to drink or use the same water and toilets like the white people. For his mother as a teacher e.g was it impossible to teach in schools for whites.

Education:
He was an awesome student, he skipped the ninth and twelfth grade and in 1948 he began to study Theology and Philiospohy in Boston. On June 18th, 1953 King married Coretta Scott. They had four children and lived in Montgomery, Alabama.
The fight against segregation:
MLK early began to fight for the rights of the black people. But he decited to fought with another method : nonviolence ; like Mahatma Ghandi in India does. So he arranged for example nonviolent marshs.
"I have a dream":
On August 28th 1963 Martin Luther Kind delivered his famous speech "I have a dream" in Washington DC where 250.000 peaceful demonstrated. He spoke about jobs, liberty and equality. He used also his speech as a negative homage to the anattainable American Dream in order to highlight the grievances of black people's attention.
Here the last lines from his speech:
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.I have a dream today."
critic on his speech:
But King had to accept that the new laws couldn't change the situation of the Black people. Most blacks were much poorer than whites. He recgonized that rasics and poverty were linked. He decited to fight for all people, no matter what colour they had. His protest against the Vietnam War war and the campaign against poverty ensured critism. In America opened even a black violent goverment which Kings methods mocked.
Kings death and bequest:
On April 1968 was MLK in Mephis, Tennessee to fight on the side of garbage workers for better wages. When he entered the balcony of the hotel he was hit by two shots into his neck. He collapsed and died - with only 39 years.
In thinking of his death he said: "I don't want to leave money or expensive things. I just want to leave a committed life."

But not only the situation of African Americans changed - even in Germany he inspired the civil rights and peace movements of the former DDR and played an important part in the reunification of both German States.
Until today the Americans remember him every third monday in January ; on the so called "Martin Luther Kind Day".
