Hi guys!
I have a question about English grammar. I started reading a book on my new Kindle (Amazon's eBook Reader) a few days ago and I'm not sure about one thing.
The author uses 'He'd' and 'We'd'. Is this past perfect? 'He had' and 'We had'? Always?
Stupid question, perhabs, but I can't rember what I learned in school.
Thanks.
So long,
Mark

Question: He'd / We'd

Re: Question: He'd / We'd
'd can be would or had
For example:
I'd see a doctor if I were you (= would see)
I'd never seen her before (= I had)
For example:
I'd see a doctor if I were you (= would see)
I'd never seen her before (= I had)

Re: Question: He'd / We'd
Exactly the same for had or would? How meany!
Examples:
He hoped he could sneak in and out without her even knowing he'd come home. (... he had come home?)
He'd already called and checked in. (He had already...?)
Seems to be more 'had' than 'would' in this book.
Thank you!

Re: Question: He'd / We'd
Well, it doesn't really matter cause "had" will always be followed by a participle, so you can see which was meant.
