Help me, please!

Hello!

I need your help again and I'd be glad if you'd find a little time for it! :D I've just written an email to a friend of mine and Id like to know my mistakes.

"....Have you settled down in your new apartement? This's my second week here in H. I really like country where I've been living for more than six years and I miss K. regardless. I've became attached to K. I like your way of life and I wish the h. people assumed smth from you. Am Monday was my first day at the vocational business school ( Berufsschule?). In the next two years I'm going to do my apprenticeship....Yesterday I visited a friend of mine. She's from the USA, but her ancestors on the paternal side are from K. She has been learning K. language for some years intermittently. I think, I'd also like to learn it one day. It sounds very interesting! We spoke a lot about K. and its history. She said that she had visited K for the first time when she was 23 y.o. Although she felt very close to this country from the very beginning. I don't have any backgrounds in K., but I had the same feeling as my friend.
Today in the evening I'm watching one the movies about K. which I bought there.
Thank's a lot again for the book "Treasure Island". It lies near my bed and waits when I finish Edna O'Brien's novel. What are you reading currently?
Sorry, I have to go now. I wish you a nice weekend.
With best wishes, C."

Thank you so much!

Hello Joy and Duckduck!

Thank you so much for your correction! :D

I'd like to know, why it's nessecary to put a definite artikel in the following sentence. "She has been learning the K. language on and off for some years".

Thanks a million!

With best wishes,

Chloe

Huhu Chloe,

well, that's because of the word "language" you inserted. It's a noun and it needs an article - though not always, but that's another story.
You can say:
"I learned English when I was a girl..." -> no "the" because there is no "language"
BUT:
"I learned the English language from the songs of the Beatles..."

Cheers and have a nice Sunday

Thank you, Duckduck!
Could you explain me the following sentence, please. I don't have a "history" in K. either, but I share my friend's feeling.
What does word "either" mean in this case?
I wanted to say that I also felt very close to this country, but I didn' have any relatives as my friend.

Aaah, Chloe, then I misunderstood your sentence. I thought you wanted to say that you - as well as your friend - had no relatives and no other connections in K. And when two people share a negative (meaning when both don't do or have something) we express that with: "neither", "either", "nor".

"I have no family in K., nor can I speak the language." = "Ich habe keine Familie in K, noch kann ich die Sprache sprechen."

"I have no family in K, and I can't speak the language either." = "Ich habe keine Familie in K und ich kann auch die Sprache nicht sprechen."

Your friend: "I've never been to B." You: "Neither have I!" = Deine Freundin: "Ich war noch nie in B." Du: "Ich auch nicht!"

The sentence I wrote would be "Ich habe auch keine "Geschichte" (= Vergangenheit) in K, aber ich teile die Gefühle meiner Freundin."
Since your friend does have connections there, though, the sentence is not really correct. Sorry!

Duckduck, I can write "I don't have a history in K. as my friend, but I share her feelings", can't I?

Hi Chloe, why not write " Although I don't have relatives or childhood memories here, as my friend does, I still share her feelings for this country". Writing "history" makes you sound very old or even ancient.
Bye,

Hello Caro,

it sounds good. But to be honest I wanted to write, that I don't have any backgrounds ( Wurzeln) in K. and inspite of that I felt very close to it. I think that relatives or childhood memories are something other ( etwas anderes). But maybe I'm wrong.

With best wishes,

Chloe

Although I wasn't brought up here, (obwohl ich hier nicht aufgewachsen bin) like my friend was, I still share her feelings for this country.
Better?

Juhuu, eine Gemeinschaftsproduktion!

Vielleicht ja so ähnlich:

"Although I - unlike my friend - have no roots i.e. family in K., I still share her feelings of a very close connection to this country."
