Is there a difference between these words/the usage of these words?
(Besides that only "though" can be used with "even" or "as")
though vs. although

Re: though vs. although
Typing Error hat geschrieben:Is there a difference between these words/the usage of these words?

We will go swimming, (al)though it is raining.
ABER:
- "although" steht häufig am Anfang eines Satzes.
Although it is raining, we will go swimming.
We won't enjoy swimming, though.
It's a question of principle, though, we are on holiday and therefore we go swimming!

I have one more little question.

@tiorthan,
maybe we should make clear that rules are a little laxer in the more informal, spoken English than in formal and written English.
Since a lot of users are still at school, they might get problems using the more informal variant in written exams, right?
So, when they ask, we'd better make this distinction, I think.

@tiorthan,
this is exactly why I try not to give answers like "they are interchangeable". Don't forget, users sometimes remember only what they want to remember, and a global answer like this is bound to be misinterpreted.
