Rudy Baylor has graduated at the Memphis State Law School. He has a workplace at a Memphis law firm, which he loses when the firm is bought out by another larger firm. Rudy is forced to apply for part-time and poorly-paid law positions. Thomas, the crooked owner of a bar where Rudy has been working part-time, introduces him to J.Lyman “Bruiser” Stone who is a unethical but successful lawyer, and he makes him to an associate. But to earn his fee, Rudy has to hunt for potential clients at the local hospital where he must pick up injury cases and sign them up. Then he is introduced to Deck Shifflet, an unethical former insurance assessor who is Rudys “teacher”. Rudy already has one case. The case is about a poor family, Dot and Buddy Black whom he met through a class visit to a community center which is sueing a insurance company called Great Benefit Life. After his employer has been arrested by the police and the FBI, he and Deck Shifflet decide to set up their own office. They are working on Rudys case against the insurance company.
The son of the poor family Donn Ray Black is dying of leukemia but almost certainly could have been saved with a bone narrow transplant, because he has an twin brother. Rudy has never argued a case before a judge and jury and he now has to fight against a group of experienced and ruthless lawyers from a large law firm. The head of this group is Leo F. Drummond. It is a difficult task, but he has some supporters and a sympathetic judge to keep on fighting. While preparing the case and also waiting in the local hospital, he meets and later falls in love with Kelly Riker, a wife who has been beaten by her husband. Before the trial begins, the Blacks' son dies. The trial begins and Rudy uncovers a plan which Great Benefit ran throughout 1991 to decline every insurance claim, regardless if the claims are valid or not. Great Benefit has thought that the insured people would not consult an attorney. An ex-employee of Great Benefit says that because of this plan, the company gets 40 million dollars more income. The trial ends with a plantiff's verdict of 50.2 million. Great Benefit quickly declares itself bankrupt, because they don’t want to pay for the verdict. There is no payout for the parents and no money for Rudy. After the trial, Rudy continues to pursue Kelly, and he wants her to get a divorce from her brutal husband. Rudy helps her to bring her items from her home back but her husband comes to home and the situation ends up in a violent fight. At the end of the fight Rudy is about to beat the husband to death, but Kelly stops him and tells him to leave. She then kills her husband on her own. Kelly spends some time in jail, but Rudy gets her out of there quickly because it was selfdefence. Rudy is shaken by these events and skeptical of the practice of law. He also will let his law license run off and do not want to practise law anymore. He takes Kelly with him and they leave the area to go to a place where Rudy can become a teacher and Kelly can go to college.

The son of the poor family Donn Ray Black is dying of leukemia but…..

The son of the poor family Donn Ray Black is suffering from leukemia but…..

Hi joy,

Hope that helps :) !

Achja..
