What are the organs of the UNO?
• Most significant organs: General Assembly*, the Security Council, the Secretariat, the International Court of Justice*, the Economic and Social Council
• General Assembly: Assembly of all member States (190), discuss about UN-issues
• Security Council: five permanent members (USA, UK, France, China, Russia) and 10 temporary members (elected by the General Assembly for 2 years), responsible for the maintenance* of peace
• Secretariat: administrative organ of the UN
• International Court of Justice: 15 judges from 15 member states ; clarify disputes between member states
• Economic and Social Council: directs the work of specialized agencies like UNICEF, UNESCO etc.
