These days it’s becoming more and more important to know English. Since the 1990s the globalization of the economy and the migration of more and more people made it inevitable to have a common language to share information and opinions. English has become a world language. In many contexts the communication is international: in economy, science and else in private life. In many occupations English is the daily routine. Companies have to communicate with people from numerous nations. This is especially true for Europe. Europe has a wide diversity of languages, but it is not possible to use them all in daily communication.
More and more information is disseminated in English, for instance in the scientific community English instead of Latin in former days has become the universal language. Critics argue that globalization leads to a loss of diversity in culture. This applies not only for goods, food, habits, film and other kinds of entertainment etc., but also for languages and for terminology in jargons. Loss of language is therefore a loss of culture and identity. On the other hand this loss is compensated by the win of a large community of language, which is able to communicate with the modern means of communication in unprecedented extent.

Hi mara und willkommen im Forum!![]()
Knowing English is getting more and more important these days. Since the 1990s the globalization of the economy and the migration of more and more people have made a common language to share information and opinions in inevitable. English has become a world language. (Well, one could argue that it has been just that for a much longer time...) Communication is international in many contexts, e.g. in economy, science and private life. English is the daily routine in many areas. Companies have to communicate with people from numerous nations. This is especially true for Europe. Europe has a wide diversity of languages, but it is not possible to use them all in daily communication.
More and more information is exchanged in English. Even Latin, the language used by scientists for many centuries, has been superseded by English, the new universal language. On the one hand, critics argue that globalization leads to a loss of diversity in culture. This does not only apply to goods, food, habits, films and other kinds of entertainment, but also to languages and to the words used in dialects. Loss of language is therefore a loss of culture and identity. On the other hand, this loss is compensated by gaining a large community sharing a language. People are thus able to communicate via the modern means of communication to an unprecedented extent.
