A lil' grammar explanation for a lil' student

Beitrag von panic22 »

Here I am again ^_^

And so here is my question:

Take a look around, and watch me go. ( It's a line of a song, I copied it out of a webpage where I found the lyrics)

So I'm basically asking for the explanation why there is used the "Present Tense Simple" instead of the "Continuos" one, which expresses general things as we all know, so guys I'm not sure whether it is really meant to express that this guy goes only once or twice or even some more times or is it simply a rule which says: "You do have to use it in this case!" ( Do not get me wrong, I surely know what this line is supposed to mean. So that he's gone)
By the way: I've recently made friends with some guys from Wales and so on due to a great journey around Great Britain where I also noticed that it actually must be some kind of a rule...? I could also add an exclamation mark, therefore I would understand why. Okay, I admit, this is a bit a weird example, let us have another one: "You helped me do this"
My sense of this great language would definitely be this one that I needed to use the gerund.

As you can see, I'm really despaired. ;(

Although I thought I was not this bad at this grammar chapter. ;(

So guys thanks in advance and I'm really looking forward to upcoming replies. ;)

C you around ;)

Oh, hey there,
I just so messed up,

By reading this text again, forget what I wrote about that exclamation mark and on. The only thing I'm wondering is why do you use the infinitive after a pronoun such as me, her, him and so on, since it mostly appears in cases such as these.
Or what the reason may be...? ;)

So sorry ;)

Hi panic,

hey, slow down a bit, will you?
It's really hard to read your texts sometimes. Could you please try and make a difference between your spoken English and the written? Don't forget, we don't know what's going on in your head, OK? And sometimes it helps to read your message once again before posting it :P .

OK, now for the explanations. I'll do them in German if you don't mind because it's easier for me and the chance that you get my meaning is bigger...

:watch: Tatsächlich steht nach Verben der Sinneswahrnehmung (Verbs of Perception) sowie nach "notice, observe, watch" der Infinitiv ohne to für die Simple Form.

"He watched me go."

Ein solcher komplexer Satz ist eigentlich eine Kombination von zwei einfachen Sätzen, wenn man so will.

He watched me. + I went.

Und dabei ist dann das Objekt des einen Satzes gleichzeitig das Sinnsubjekt des anderen Satzes.
So weit so gut.

Und nun zur Frage bezüglich des Wortes "help".

Hier liegt ein Einfluss aus dem Amerikanischen vor. In der Bedeutung "bei etwas helfen" wird zunehmend auch im BrE der Infinitiv ohne to verwendet.

"You helped me do this."

Wenn allerdings das Wort in der Bedeutung "zu etwas verhelfen" gebraucht wird, wird weiterhin der Infinitiv mit to verwendet.

"Your coffee helped me to wake up."

Cheers
