ich bräuchte mal Hilfe bei der Übersetzung von "carry off", hier der ganze Satz:

I come from a modern country, where we have everything that money can buy; and with all our spry young fellows painting the Old World red, and carrying off your best actresses and prima-donnas, I reckon that if there were such a thing as a ghost in Europe, we'd have it at home in a very short time in one of our public museums, or on the road as a show.

Das Zitat stammt aus einem literarischen Werk, das vor mehr als 120 Jahren entstand.
Du kannst also bei der Übersetzung auch ruhig eine bildliche Sprache verwenden.

Eine Übersetzung ist häufig auch eine Interpretation der geschriebenen Worte,
und da nur der ursprüngliche Autor wirklich weiß was sie bedeuten sollen
kann man nur in begrenztem Maße von richtig oder falsch sprechen.

"carry off" hat übrigens nicht nur eine bestimmte Bedeutung.
Es ist vielmehr aus dem Zusammenhang heraus zu übersetzen.

Juhuu, ja, ein schönes Buch!

Sowas wie "wegschnappen", "abwerben", und "wegheiraten" ist gemeint. Also Alles, was in der alten Welt gut und besonders ist, wird von den Amis "weggeholt".

Thank you, Maria. It is always nice to get some kind of feedback, especially positive feedback. But we don't do it to be admired.
It's supposed to be a little indirect reminder of the forum rules (which everyone agreed to during the registration process )
which implicitly state that one has to use proper German or English to allow others to improve their respective language skills too.
They also advice everyone to check their lines for spelling errors and typos before posting them. As you probably already know
during the first 20 minutes after the publication of a text the user can click the "Edit / Ändern" button to correct such mistakes.
