The book „My beautiful Laundrette“ written by Hanif Kureishi is about two intensity difference man in London, who must keep their love hidden.
Nassar and his partner Salim have a number of small businesses and they do everythink what they can to make money, but same of this activities are ilegal. Nassar live more than a comfortable lifestyle and he shows this whenever he can. His brother Hussein lives with his son Omar in a seedy flat in Londen,too. He is alcoholic, because he lose his wife and he is dissatisfied with his life in Great Britain. To help his brother, Nassar gives Omar a job.
But Omar has bigger plans and he talks whith Nassar about a manager job for Nassar’s run down laundrette. He want to renovate it with a old friend, Johnny. Johnny has been most recently running around with a gang of white punks. Omar and Johnny have a special relationship, but they have sam problems, because no one understand their feelings. Omar is half-Pakistani on that account hate him the friends of Johnny and Omars family don’t accepted the relationship.Therefore the way of Omar an johnny divide.
Hanif Kureishi doesn’t describe only the live in Great Britain of a pakistani and his problems, he lets us have an insight into his life. His mother was Englisch and his father an immigrant from Bombay who had come to complete his education in the mother country and nerver retuned. He grow up in a cultural gap. His life wasn’t easy because he was one of the first half-pakistani in britain and no side accepted him.
