When + present t. simply or when + present t. continous

hey there again!

Well as the subject already says it is about how to use when + the present tense in a correct way.


I've been actually wondering for a couple of time... because the word "when"
basically means "wenn" or if you talk in the past "als" well to my
mind.. However, i am talking about the first of these two meanings. So... is
it not whenever you use the word "when" you talk about general things and
statements and so on..?

hope you do understand what I'm trying to explain...

I am basically asking for a rule or something like this...

well, to be honest: I'm not really sure whether I understand your question.
Is it that you would like to know what the difference between

"when + Simple Present" and
"when + Present Progressive" (= Continuous) is?

Nun, dann jetzt mal in Deutsch weiter, damit es auch klar wird:

Wenn Du "when" + Simple Present verwendest, machst Du eine generelle Aussage, da hast Du ganz Recht:
"I can't stand loud music in the background when I read English books."
= Wenn ich das eine tue (Lesen) kann ich das andere nicht gebrauchen (Musik).
Hier geht es um den Zeitpunkt, wenn Du so willst.

Wenn Du "when" + Present Continuous verwendest, willst Du die zeitliche Dauer einer Handlung hervorheben, während der etwas geschieht:
"When I'm reading English books I can stand loud music in the background."
"Während ich englische Bücher lese, kann ich laute Musik im Hintergrund nicht ausstehen."

Wie immer, ein kleiner Unterschied, der aber trotzdem ein Unterschied ist!
