T.C. Boyle - Wild Child

Hello, currently i read the book "Wild Child" by T.C. Boyle to improve my English skills. I would be very thankful if you would correct my - hopfully few - mistakes.

"Wild Child" is a novel by T.C. Boyle and in the first chapter - named "Balto" - the author introduces Jerry, Marcy, Anglette, Liesette and Mr. Apodaca. Jerry is a middle age handsome man who has got two children, Anglette and Liesette. Anglette is the eldest and thirteen years old. Their mother left them and went to France. It seems to be that Jerry is overstretch raising the girls alone. He also dates Marcy a young chinese woman who is very attractive. One evening Jerry goes out for dinner with Marcy and both of them get very drunk. Soon he notes that he forgot to pick up Anglette and Liesette after their soccer lessons. Nevertheless he tries to drive to them and after his arrival he asks Angelette for driving the car home. Jerry practises driving with Anglette from time to time.
In the next scene Mr. Apodaca, Jerry´s attorney, tries to defend him in front of the court. The judge asks Anglette who drove the car and Mr. Apodaca and Jerry expect their rehearse answer. But to all surprise she admit that she did it.

Jerry seems to be overtaxed with raising the girls alone. He also dates Marcy, a young Chinese woman who is very attractive. One evening Jerry and Marcy go out for dinner and both of them get very drunk. Soon he remembers that he has forgotten to pick up Anglette and Liesette after their soccer lessons. Although he is rather drunk, he drives to them and after his arrival he asks Angelette to drive the car home. Jerry has been practising driving with Anglette from time to time.
In the next scene Mr. Apodaca, Jerry's attorney, tries to defend him in front of the court. The judge asks Anglette who drove the car and Mr. Apodaca and Jerry expect that their rehearse will answer. But - to everyone's surprise - she admits that she did it.

Nun ist es ja doch etwas bunt. Aber das liegt nur daran, dass ich jetzt auch auf alles geachtet habe, gut verständlich war es auch in Deiner Fassung. Prima gemacht! Weiter so!

Deine Anmerkung ist verständlich, aber es gibt die Möglichkeit, dass "answer" im Sinne von "taugen, ausreichen" verwendet wird.
Insofern geht die Formulierung an, dann bedeutet sie eben, dass die beiden Männer annehmen, dass die Probe etwas taugen wird, dass sie nutzen, ausreichen wird.

Ok, daran hatte ich nicht sofort gedacht.
Aber die Original-Formulierung war auch etwas anders.

... Mr. Apodaca and Jerry expect their rehearsed answer.

I guess, I'm stuck in this train of thought.

@Delfino,
das ist jetzt nicht wichtig, weil am Ende ja Deine beiden Vorschläge genauso gut sind wie alle anderen. Aber ich sehe das "rehearse" bei Alex ohne "d". Ich denke, das brachte mich auch auf den Gedanken, die vorgegebene Formulierung beizubehalten und nur zu korrigieren.
