The British government (Aufgepasst: wenn die Kolonien selber Steuern erlassen hätten, wären sie ja nicht böse darüber gewesen, nicht?) reacted by passing new tax laws. They introduced new acts for example the Sugar Act and the Stamp Act. The colonists had to pay taxes on sugar and on paper, including newspapers.
The colonies were not represented in British Parliament, though. So their opinion was "No taxation without representation".
In 1770 there occured an incident later called the "Boston Massacre". 4000 British soldiers were sent to Boston. The colonists started an anti Bristish riot. Large crowds threw stones at small groups of soldiers. The soldiers shoot into the crowd. The result was that five people died. The colonial propaganda called the event a "massacre".
In 1773 a new law was enacted. Only the British East India Company was allowed to sell tea to the colonies. Due to the fact that the tea was cheaper thamn tea from other sources, the shops in the colonies couldn't compete. The colonists didn't want any tea to be unloaded in Boston. So they dressed up as Indians and threw the tea from British ships into Boston Harbor. This incident was later called the "Boston Tea Party".
In 1775 there was the "Battle of Lexington and Concord". The British wanted to arrest anti British leaders at Lexington and Concord. So British soldiers marched from Boston. A lamp in a Boston church signalled the start of the British attack to the colonist Paul Revere. Revere hastened to warn the people of Lexington and Concord.
The result of the first real battle of Independence was the death of 247 British soldiers and 95 American patriots.
In 1776 followed the "Declaration of Independence". It declared the thirteen colonies to be independent of British rule. The question reights of the king was (Hier weiß ich nicht, was Du meinst) The famous opening words of the Declaration of Independence are: "We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal." It contained a list of wrongs that should be made right. The British reaction was to declare war.
Hallo Du,
Also nächstes Mal bitte selber genauer nachgucken, OK?

Viel Glück für das Referat!
