Hallo liebe Forengemeinde,
Dominic
Definition:
Web shops or online shops are instruments of the e-commerce (electronic trade). The web shop forms a virtual place for the sale of goods, services and digital products in the internet. Every web shop belongs to a “real” company that cares for the order handling, the disposal and the delivery of the products. The central characteristic of this kind of transaction is the close relation between the seller and the end customer.
According to Ferguson the use of a web shop means that the customer has not to get in contact with an employee of the company in order to use the applications and information given in the shop.
Koether (2009) says that web shops can be subdivided into four particular categories. These categories differ in their target audience.
• B2B (Business to Business)
• B2C (Business to Consumer)
• C2B (Consumer to Business)
• C2C (Consumer to Consumer)
The most common forms are the B2B shops and the B2C shops. B2B on the one hand stands for the ecommerce relation between commercial suppliers and commercial users (Henning in 2007, p. 600). B2C on the other hand means the ecommerce relation between commercial suppliers and private end users (Henning in 2007, p. 597).
Terms and conditions for the use of web shops in a company
For the efficient use of a web shop within a company some requirements according to the information technology have to be met. At first the company has to buy the software it needs to run an online shop. Then this software has to be linked to the enterprise resource system and the payment system of the concern.
Besides, the company has to check whether the new way of selling is suitable for its products. Most adequate for a web shop are products that can be downloaded by the costumer. This could be software, music, films, photos, engineering drawings, charts, newspaper articles et cetera. In addition to that the use of a web shop could be very profitable for companies that sell niche products. By using a web shop those niche products would be available for everyone, everywhere at every time. In this case the build-up of a dealer network would not make sense.
Products that are not recommendable for sale via online shop are perishable goods. As the delivery of the goods could take a few days this way of selling could mean a loss in quality. Furthermore it is not recommendable to sell very cheap products via internet because the costumers prefer to buy those goods in a store.
Furthermore the company has to find out whether its target group uses the internet for buying or not. If the result of this research should say, that the average costumer avoids online shops, the company has to find a different way of selling its products.

(das "on the one hand...on the other hand" ist hier inhaltlich nicht so schön, denn es ist von 2 unterschiedlichen Dingen die Rede. Hier würde ich "Whereas B2B stands for..., B2C means..." vorschlagen)

Beachte "customer" aber "consumer"
