The short story „Desirees Baby“ by ....................... focuses on the position of women and the discrimination of black people in the amarican south for a few years.

Armand Aubigni fell in love with a young woman named Desiree Valmonde and they married. Bevor Armand met the woman, he was a strict and violent person. But after the birth of their first child Armand does not punish his slaves like bevor. Desiree was happy about the child and the marrige as well.
Her mother visit her at L`Abri and has a look on the baby. Everthing is ok, but three months later their baby is not white anymore and Armand finds his wife guilty. For that reason the behaviour of the husband changes again to the old habits. Sometimes he behaves like a devil to his wife and the slaves.
Desiree is shocked and full of despair and saidness. She cannot belive it and want to convince her husband that this is not the truth. Her husband does not love her anymore and sents her and the baby away to her mother.
Therefore she lefts the farm but she sees no more reason to live on. Because of that Desiree kills herself and her baby.
Some weeks later Armand discovers an old letter from his mother to his father and gets the information, that his mother was black.

Armand Aubigni, the young owner of a plantation, falls in love with a young woman named Desiree Valmonde. She was found as a little child by the family Valmonde and nothing is known about her background. The young people get married. Before meeting her, Armand was a strict and violent person. But after the birth of their first child, Armand does not punish his slaves like before. Desiree is happy about the child and the marriage as well.
Her mother visits her at L'Abri and looks at the baby. She is surprised, but does not say anything. Three months later the baby is not white anymore and Armand blames his wife. His behaviour changes again. Sometimes he behaves like a devil to his wife and the slaves.
Desiree is shocked and full of despair and sadness. She cannot believe it and wants to convince her husband that his suspicions are not true. But he does not love her anymore and sends her and the baby away to her mother.
She leaves the plantation and since she does not see any reason to live on, she kills herself and her baby.
Some weeks later, while burning all her belongings, Armand discovers an old letter, sent by his mother to his father. He learns from the content that his mother was black.
