Discuss the value of gymnastics as an activity in schools within the PE curriculum.

Activity is one of the most essential things in a child’s healthy development. Unfortunately the modern society changed in a way, that exercise has become less important. Some call it a “sitting society”, which means that children spend more time inside concentrating on media as TV and PC, rather than going outside and following their natural given habit: exploring.
In order to ensure the healthy development of a child, which includes not only the physical but also the social, emotional and intellectual side, schools should set up a good all round physical education programme, including a variety of sports, that compensates the loss of exercise and introduces the children to a healthy lifestyle.
Due to the steady development of new sports, the value of gymnastic in the PE lesson has been decreasing since.
Pupils consider it as old-fashioned and don't appreciate gymnastics as much as they appreciate other sports in school. Also the opinion that gymnastics is a girls sport is wide-spread, which keeps boys from enjoying it.

Still, gymnastics should play a decisive/well-established role in the physical education programme of a school. It is one of the sports that “directly contribute to the personal development of children”.
Next to dance, gymnastic is one of the few activities that has its focus completely on the movement of the body itself. Children get the chance to explore themselves and their potentialities, which is a really important part in the individuals’ development. They need to explore in order to learn how to control their body and be confident with different movements. Only if they are aware of how their body works and what they are able to do with it, the can make full use of it.
Furthermore, it offers the ability to experience the fundamentals of movement and teach basic skills as body tension, strength, balance, flexibility and body awareness, which are required skills for other sports. Those basics will support the physical development of a child in any stage.
Especially body tension is a skill that the individual will not only face in their sporting environment, but also in their every-day life as it plays an important role in your body language.
It is a sport, which, like no other, offers an unlimited range of skills and activities to learn. Every simple skill, can be followed by a more difficult one and finally be set up in a complex performance. This makes it really easy to adapt the exercise to the children’s needs and abilities. As for the children it is really good to see their progress of their development / which exposes the progress of an individual.
For the reason that there are no restrictions through specific rules made in gymnastic, it can improve the child’s sense for creativity. Rules often keep children from trying. Now this environment gives children some space to feel free to try different movements and be creative with it. Small performances can be challenging and encouraging for the children at the same time.
One last thing is that gymnastic is not necessary competitive as it is the fact in most sports. The aim of your movement lies not in scoring a goal or being the fastest, but in the beauty of the movement of your own body. Accurateness and excellence should be the aim of a gymnast.
All in all, gymnastics helps children to experience a wide range of movements, which prepares them for their further physical development. Children, who have been confronted with gymnastic in their early stage of development, will find it much easier to be successful in other types of movements because of their greater understanding and well-prepared bodies.

Keine Kurzformen (isn't).

Super! :freu:

Good luck says
