Dear Philip
I have contacted the consultant and I think we should use her services, because she seems to be well informed and she is very competitive. The topics she covers are:
Emphasis on the group
This group orientation manufactures itself. The group orientation is very important for the survival of the company. If you ask any Japanese manager what he does, he will almost revalue the answer by saying I am a solely man or I work for Mitsubishi. People are the only resources Japan processes because of the population.
Human relationships
It is important to achieve and survive together. There are things you have to learn like luck and harmony. You can learn harmony by sacrificing a little bit of self interest for the sake of the group and also by compromising and trying to make everybody agree. You enter the company with same aged people. A Japanese remains with his company until his retirement (life time employment).
Japanese managers
A Japanese is transferred from one department to another and familiarized with the entire company. All the employees participate in the process of decision making and then the executives have to agree. Everybody is involved in the process and are trained more to be a generalist than a specialist. Not like American way that the decision is making by one executive.
All the executives who will be involved are available on this day.
