Characterisation
Amy Sumoto is the first person narrator of the story “The War between the Classes” by “Gloria D. Miklowitz. The story is told from her point of view. She is the protagonist in the story. Amy is 17 years old, Amy is her nickname; her real name is Emiko. Amy is a Japanese girl, her parents have emigrated to the USA but they still live their Japanese traditions . Emiko grows up in a middle class neighbourhood. Her boyfriend Adam is an American boy, which is a big conflict between Amy and her parents, her parents distrust anyone who isn’t like them. Sometimes she is sad about that but if she is together with her boyfriend Adam she is happy and Amy is really in love with him. The first impression I got when I read the book was that Amy Sumoto is a responsible young woman who tries to suite everybody. She is going to high school, her most preferred teacher is Mr Ray Otero who organises the colour game. Amy participates in the colour game as a “Blue” (the blue colour is the highest colour. The “blues” live a good life, visit private schools and have much money.) but she does not like being a “Blue” because she is not allowed to talk to her boyfriend Adam because he is a “Orange” (the lowest class, always in trouble with the law) furthermore she says “as a blue you have to be heartless and egoistic” what she isn’t.
Partly she was really sad and unhappy because she couldn’t talk to her boyfriend and he ignored her. That really made her sad. Her brother Hideo and his woman Sue were having a baby so Amy was becoming aunt. That turned her really happy but Sue lost her baby.
While the colour game Amy tries to unite all the colours. She creates posters with her friend Juan (Dark green, the middle class) with the text “ ALL COLOURS UNITE” and they hung them up at school but the G4 (police) saw them and they have been punished and become an “Orange” (lowest class). This activity shows that Amy isn’t egoistic and heartless- she is a “team player”.
After her demotion as an “Orange” she feels better because she can talk to her boyfriend whenever she wants and they all hold together; Amy says about being an “Orange”: “One nice thing about being an Orange is getting together like this [meeting of all Oranges]. When I was a Blue, we never met after school.” (cf. P.79 l. 1-4). This quote shows that she is really glad and happy about being an Orange.
Amy is very helpful, she tutors Adams sister in maths. Moreover she is usually very friendly and polite towards others. For example in the color game she does not treat someone bad only because he is of a lower color. She never gives up not either she has become an Orange p.33 l.33 “It wasn’t in my nature to try to fail”.
In conclusion you can characterize Amy as a friendly, helpful, nice, strong young woman.

Hallo fafro24, willkommen im Forum!![]()
Ich habe Farbe und kursive Schrift rausgenommen, weil Du ja sonst meine Korrektur nicht finden kannst.![]()
Characterisation
Amy Sumoto is the first-person narrator of the story “The War between the Classes” by “Gloria D. Miklowitz. The story is told from her point of view and she is the protagonist in/of the story.
Amy is 17 years old and "Amy" is only her nickname; her real name is Emiko. She is a Japanese girl, her parentshaveemigrated to the USA but they still keep to their Japanese traditions. Emiko grows up in a middle class neighbourhood. Her boyfriend Adam is an American boy, which keeps causing big conflicts between Amy and her parents. They distrust anyone who is not(Weil es ein Text für die Schule und nicht gesprochene Sprache ist Langform?!) like them.
Sometimes she is sad about that but when(eher temporal als konditional, oder?) she is together with her boyfriend Adam she is happy. She is really in love with him.
The first impression I got when I read the book was that Amy Sumoto is a responsible young woman who tries to suiteeverybody. During the colour game Amy tries to unite all the colours. She creates posters with her friend Juan (a "Dark green", the middle class) with the slogan “ALL COLOURS UNITE” and they hang them up at school. But the G4 (police) sees them and they are punished and made “Oranges” (lowest class). This activity shows that Amy is not egoistic and heartless - she is a “team player”.
After her demotionas an “Orange”she even feels better because she can talk to her boyfriend whenever she wants and they all hold/stick together. Amy says about being an “Orange”: “One nice thing about being an Orange is getting together like this [meeting of all Oranges]. When I was a Blue, we never met after school.” (cf. P.79 l. 1-4). This quote shows that she is really glad and happy about being an Orange.

In conclusion, you can characterize(Dies ist die AmE Schreibweise, oben hast Du die BrE, "characterisation". Ich würde mich entscheiden, welche Du nehmen willst) Amy as a friendly, helpful, nice, strong young woman.
Good luck says

Hi
Dasselbe gilt für colour - im letzten Abschnitt ist color geschrieben weiter oben colour:
AM = color BR = colour
"For example in the color game she does not treat anyone bad only because he or she is of a lower color. She never gives up, not"
Noch eine Frage an Duckduck
Müsste es nicht heissen ...treat anyone badly (nicht bad), oder täusche ich mich?
Liebe Grüsse
