TEXT:
There is an institution in central Switzerland where you can see tixi’s.
What is a tixi?
A tixi is a means of transport like a taxi which transports people.
The difference is that a tixi is only available for disabled people, e.g. people who are not able to take the bus or the train because of a handicap, an illness or due to old age – people at every age and background.
So they can maintain social contacts, do excursions, attend courses, go to the hairdresser’s or see the doctor’s or take part in therapies etc.
The tixi cars are bigger than taxis because they have to be suitable for wheelchairs.
The tixi organisation was founded for around 20 years by a woman who had been handicapped herself.
She started with one car and has grown to 15 cars up to now.
She did not only found this establishment; no she has been working hard.
She is organizing the drives, together with a few other women, and that is by no means easy to do.
There are 235 voluntary helpers and 135 helpers from civil defence.
All together it is driven more than 500’000 km a year.
This is a great thing, isn’t it?
English-hilfen: This is a great thing, too!

Very great things (both of them) - and a really great text, too.

"The tixi organisation was founded for around 20 years".
