The word "it" is a so-called personal pronoun which means that you use it instead of another word. For example when you don't want to repeat the noun in every sentence you say.
e.g.: "I have a new car. My car is green. My car is fast. I like my car."
OR: "I have a new car. It is green and fast. And I like it very much."
You see, the it refers to the noun "car". The other personal pronouns are:
"I, you he, she, it, we, you, and they".
The word "this" is a so-called demonstrative pronoun which means that you use it when you want to point out a specific thing or person (or things and persons). For example you might point your finger at a car and say:
"Look, this is my car ..., not the one over there."
You want the people who listen to you to understand that you are talking about a certain car.
The other demonstrative pronouns are "that, those, and these"
