Hallo,
Romeo Phillion
Romeo Phillion was born in 1939. He grew up in East of Ottawa and had attended the St. Joseph’s School till he got raped there. After his graduation he studied and then he worked as an accountant. He was in jail for over 31 years.
Timeline what happened:
1967: On the 9th August Ottawa firefighter Leopold was stabbed to death. While this happened Romeo was at a gas station in Trenton, Ontario having his car repaired. The police believed him.
1972: Romeo Phillion and another man were arrested in connection with a robbery. Romeo said he would confess if they let his alleged robbery accomplice go. Romeo was convicted of the murder though he immediately recanted and has maintained his innocence ever since. The trial judge sentenced him to life imprisonment with no chance of parole for ten years.
1974: On the 3rd September an appeal to the Court of Appeal was dismissed.
1977: A further and coincident the last appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada was dismissed on the 22nd of March.
2003: On the 23rd of July Romeo was released on bond based on the discovery of prosecution reports proving the police verified his alibi in 1968, and concluded he could not have committed the murder.
This case is significant because he is the longest wrongful imprisonment in Canada. It illustrates how filthy the police sometimes works and simply ignores evidence as well as it can end when you confess once. It also is amazing how a person can say “I feel like a million bucks” smiling directly after being in prison for over 31 years innocently. It seems that he does not have any disease from this terrible 31 years.

Hi Keswick,

Romeo Phillion was born in 1939. He grew up in the east of Ottawa (also im Osten der Stadt Ottawa, oder östlich von Ottawa, dann wäre es "in a village east of Ottawa") andhadattendedtheSt. Joseph’s School till he got raped there. After his graduation he studied what?? and then he worked as an accountant. He was in jail for over 31 years.
Timeline of what happened:
1967: On the 9th August Ottawa firefighter Leopold is stabbed to death. While this happens, Romeo is having his car repaired at a gas station in Trenton, Ontario. The police believeshim.
1972: Romeo Phillion and another man are arrested in connection with a robbery. Romeo says he will confess (to the murder of Leopold??) if they let his alleged robbery accomplice go. Romeo is charged with (= angeklagt wegen Mordes?) murder although he immediately withdraws his confession and has maintained his innocence ever since. The trial judge sentences him to life imprisonment with no chance of parole for ten years.
1974: On the 3rd September an appeal to the Court of Appeal is dismissed.
1977: A further and coincident??? the last verstehe ich nicht appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada is dismissed on the 22nd of March.
2003: On the 23rd of July Romeo is released on (bail?? = auf Kaution, oder on license = auf Bewährung??) based on the discovery of prosecution reports which prove that the police have verified his alibi in 1968, and comes to the conclusion that Phillion cannot have committed the murder.
This case is significant because it is the longest imprisonment based on a wrongful conviction in Canada. It illustrates how neglectful the police sometimes works, how evidence is simply ignored and what the result can be when you try to withdraw a confession. It is also amazing how a person can say “I feel like a million bucks” and smile directly after having innocently been in prison for over 31 years. It seems that he does not suffer any disease (Krankheit???) after those terrible 31 years.

1977: A further and coincident??? the last verstehe ich nicht(ein weiterer und gleichzeitig letzter Einspruch...) Re: Korrektur noetig
Danke nochmals.
Habe gestern aber noch 2 Punkte vergessen.
1. The police believes him.

Hallo Awesome,![]()
http://www.englisch-hilfen.de/grammar/s ... plural.htm
