Hallo:)
ich muss für Englisch einen "opinion article" schreiben. Ich habe mich für das Thema "Vertrauen in die Politiker" entschieden. Bin irgendwie nicht so zufrieden mit meinem Ergebnis. Vielleicht habt ihr ja einen Tipp?!

We can't trust in politicians anymore!
Did you know that more than half of the German citizens would not lend money to their politicians? This reveals a public-opinion poll recently made by the market research bureau “ODC-Services”. Well, this is not surprising at all! Many statistics, complaining articles in newspapers and the internet show that citizens of many countries have lost their confidence in their politicians. This is comprehensible! Who would trust someone who takes the money you have paid to the state and goes on vacation or pays their pricy dinner for two with it?
In the last few years we have had a couple of cases like that. The most recent one occurred in Germany this summer: The FDP reveals that health minister Ulla Schmidt (SPD) takes her company car to Alicante, Spain, her vacation resort, since 2004. The drives in Spain she recorded in her tax return as private. For the drive from Berlin to Alicante the tax payer had to pay. How can the SPD expect the Germans to elect their chancellor candidate after that scandal? Of course, affairs like that are thought-provoking. I did not elect the SPD this year!
In the United States it has been an issue lately that government has to suffer because of environment bills (approved by the government itself) they cannot meet now. How stupid is that? First they set up very nice “environment helping” bills and then they are not able to comply with it.
Also, there were the news today that German politicians get nothing less than 10.000€ for buying office supplies! Why would you need so much money for office supplies?! And what do they purchase with that? Of course, luxury pens! However, new bills are being set up to restrict the politicians in spending too much tax money.
All of these cases lead me to the firm conviction that the picture of today’s politicians needs to be totally exchanged! Politicians have got to quit doing harm to their public and start doing their job! Politicians like Herbert Wehner (KPD, 1930s) or Franz Josef Strauß (CSU, 1940s) are famous for their straight and unbiased speeches. That is what we need again so we can rebuild our trust in an important part of our everyday life.

Einen Tipp habe ich: versuche deine Meinung zwar deutlich rueberzubringen, aber versuche nicht so "aggressiv" zu sein. Saetze wie "how stupid is that?" sind etwas zu viel des Guten. Versuche hier etwas zu schreiben "this is irreproducible" oder so aehnlich.
