Hey Caroline, maybe you have to do something that they trust you more. For example do not come home too late. Well, I am allowed to go out on weeknights because they really trust me. Maybe not as long as on the weekends but that’s ok for me. I think our parents don’t want to be mean, they just mean it well. They just want to care about their kids, but sometimes maybe too much. I never was grounded or something, the relationship between me and my parents is very good. But that was not always the case. When I was younger, I always wanted to go out very long, but now I know that they just want to care about me, because I was young and maybe I didn’t know, what I should do and what not. Now I’m 17 and older, and I think I really know what I’m allowed to do and what not. This is the reason why we haven’t got any problems. Well I hope you and your parents will have a good relationship in the future. Have a nice time.

I don't think our parents want to be nasty, they just mean it well, really. They just want to take care of their kids, but sometimes they overdo it. Gut soweit. Keine Ahnung, wofür Du es brauchst. Nur der Hinweis, es ist ziemlich umgangssprachlich, noch nicht slang, aber doch colloquial. Also nicht an die Queen schicken, OK? Andererseits überdenke dann noch mal, ob Du nicht auch die Kurzformen "don't" "shouldn't" usw. verwenden willst.
