The Great Gatsby
The Ambassador of the American Dream?
Jay Gatsby, one of the major Characters in the Film “The Great Gatsby” by F.Scott Fitzgerald, seems to be the representative of the American Dream.
Played by Robert Redford Gatsby is a young man, around thirty years old who rose from an impoverished childhood in North Dakota to become fabulously wealthy. Therefore he throws parties every week at his mansion. He appears surrounded by spectacular luxury, courted by powerful men and beautiful women. However, he achieved his richness in an illegal way. Though Gatsby has always wanted to be rich, his main motivation is his love for Daisy Buchanan who he met before leaving to World War I. At the reunion with Daisy he falls in love with her and hides his criminal background to capture her heart. However, there is a problem for Gatsby. Daisy married Tom, while Gatsby was in World War I. From that moment on, Gatsby dedicated himself to winning Daisy back with the richness. Though he gets in conflict with Tom, because he detects the relationship between Gatsby and his wife Daisy. After the dispute with Tom Gatsby cause an accident where a young women dies. The Death of the women will be Gatsby’s destiny a couple of time later, because the husband of the dead women take revenge and murder Gatsby in his own mansion. In fact there is to say, that in one way The Great Gatsby is an ambassador of the American Dream, because he made it from a poor worker to a rich guy. It does not matter how he gets rich, as long as he gets rich. In an other way there is also to say, that his motivation was not the money and the luxury. His motivation was his love to someone, which is not a typical example for the American Dream. Whether he is an ambassador or he is not, The Great Gatsby is great.

The Great Gatsby - The Ambassador of the American Dream?
Jay Gatsby, one of the major Characters in the Film “The Great Gatsby” by F.Scott Fitzgerald,
seems to be the representative of the American Dream. Robert Redford played Gatsby,
a young man, around thirty years old, who rose from an impoverished childhood in North Dakota
to become fabulously wealthy. Therefore he was able to throw parties at his mansion every week.
He was surrounded by spectacular luxury and accompanied by powerful men and beautiful women.
However, he gathered his riches illegally. Although Gatsby always wanted to be rich,
his main motivation was his love for Daisy Buchanan who he met before he had to leave for the World War I.
After his reunion with Daisy he fell in love with her and hid his criminal background to capture her heart.
However, Daisy has already married Tom, while Gatsby fought in World War I. From the moment he realises this problem
Gatsby dedicated his life to winning Daisy back with his riches. He gets in conflict with Tom,
who detected the relationship between Gatsby and his wife Daisy. After the dispute with Tom
Gatsby caused an accident where a young women dies. The death of this women became Gatsby’s destiny
some time later when the husband of this dead women took revenge and murdered Gatsby in his own mansion.
One fact is that "The Great Gatsby" is an ambassador of the American Dream, because he started as a poor worker and became a rich guy.
For him it was not important how he got rich but the final result. His motivation was his love for someone else,
which is not a typical example for the American Dream. So his motivation was not money and the luxury.
Whether he is an ambassador or not, The Great Gatsby is great.
