Recently, discussions about protecting the environment around us have attracted a lot of attention in the population. The ongoing conflict between environmentalists and other parties is becoming more and more intensive. What can therefore be done for a global protection of the environment while considering the interests of industrial, emerging or developing countries?
Well, considering the fact, that our planet is not able to reproduce resources as fast as we use them up, a change in our behavior is necessary to preserve our planet sustainable. Crude Oil, for example, takes about 300 million years to build up the same amount as the one, existing today. Despite of the current climate change, which is caused by human behavior, many countries reject environmentalists` suggestions about reducing carbon dioxide as well as making up to the already occurred damages. Similarly important is the fact that companies, which are charged with the digging and processing of raw materials, cannot reduce production of raw materials as easy as many think. The global demand for raw materials to manufacture all kinds of goods as well as companies' intentions to make profits, hamper them from reducing the production. This is largely due to the fact that the global market situation forces them to react in that way.
In the past, governments used to ignore the issue of global warming but nowadays they had set up a lot of rules and restrictions in the range of environmental protection. Those measures have ignited a spark in the companies` mind to move into third world countries to work there. This means a huge environmental burden for those countries. Exploiting third world countries is no solution to keep environmental pollution away from emerging and industrialized countries. Therefore especially governments have to react to the pollution of the environment and to connect such mistakes with penalties and fees.
To sum up, I believe that the environmental problems could not as easily be solved as many people think. In my conviction it is a good solution if the governments, the industrialized and third world countries work together as a whole to create rules and conditions, which are binding upon all parties. It is not necessary to ban barely environmentally friendly companies from the world market but rather to force them to develop and apply cleaner ways of production. In other words, we all have to realize that only an assimilation to the ever-changing environment is able to cope with upcoming problems.
