Hi everybody!

First of all I want to introduce myself:

I am Frauke, 27 years old, from Elsdorf (near cologne).

The point is, my boyfriend was send on a course for studying english - he will need it for work.

In fact, I'm not so good in english language myself, but my boyfriend really has to grapple with learning languages, so I'd like to help him a little if possible.

For two weeks he is on this course now with some other students. They didn't wrote any graded examination yet, but some letters/tests which were collected and corrected by their teacher. Each time they had to wrote a letter, she then told their students, wether they would have passed or failed, if it was a graded examination.

As she told him, he would't have passed the examination if it was graded, he resigned a little bit.

So I wondred how to help him, and I think he should ask his teacher for a lead what he could learn at weekend - for the next week!

Do you think this was a good idea? Would YOU honor his will if you were his teacher an give him some suggestions?

To allay his fears (asking his teacher) I thought about 'the right words' to aks her, so he could learn them and get more self-confidence to handle this situation.

Now I'm searching for someone who could have a look at it:

Here I am again...

Eine der Aufgaben für diese Woche ist z.B. noch, einen Brief zu schreiben, in dem hauptsächlich Informationen zum Urlaub eingeholt werden sollen.

Da die Aufgabenstellung aber nur auf Deutsch erfolgt ist, habe ich jetzt erstmal damit angefangen, diese zu übersetzen. Auf Deutsch lesen - und somit denken - und dann aber auf Englisch Antworten zu finden und zu schreiben finde ich irgendwie seltsam.

Nun ja, ich würde mich freuen, wenn mir der ein oder andere mit der Korrektur der Übersetzung weiterhelfen könnte...

By the way: Ich sehe es doch richtig, dass, wenn das ganze Thema sich um Amerika dreht und auch der Angeschriebene ein Amerikaner ist, ich zumindest (gerade bei der Hauptüberschrift der Aufgabenstellung) darauf achten sollte, neutrale Worte und kein BE zu wählen, oder? Eine neutrale Wahl würde auch einem generellen Unterricht in BE nicht entgegenstehen, denke ich.

'holidays' is only a BE (British English) expression for 'Urlaub', an American thinks of 'Feiertag' if you're talking about 'holidays'!
So even if you're learning BE in your course, it would be better to use the word 'vacation' - this is a general expression for 'Urlaub'.

Wenn in der Klasse BE gelehrt wird, dann sollte man sich entweder daran halten oder eben wie du sagt neutral bleiben. Nur weil ein Text in AE ist, muss man sich nicht verrenken, um bei AE zu bleiben. Du redest als Brite in den USA ja ploetzlich auch nicht anders, bzw. als Amerikaner in UK.

Ich weiss nicht, ob der Text in den Klammern von dir ist, aber ich denke den kann man weg lassen.

Ich verbessere deinen Text so weit mir moeglich neutral, aber ich bin BE Sprecher, daher ist es fuer mich auch nicht wirklich ganz moeglich mich auf AE umzustellen. Das erwarte ich von einem AE Sprecher auch nicht .

Der ADAC ist offizieller AAA Partnerclub.
Die Rabatte usw bekommt man also auch als ADAC-Mitglied - zumindest meine Erfahrung.

Oh, he actually is. So we used this fact in this letter.
