that and comma

Hi @ all,

i have some problems with that and comma. When is it correct to set a comma before that? Please have a look at the following text, are the commas correct?

A software product line is a group of software systems that meet lots of requirements for a shared application class. The development of product lines is marked by usage of common assets, espe-cially components, architectures and process models. An asset or product line asset is every con-crete result that comes up by development of product lines. Assets can be pieces of code, documen-tations, models, documentation of requirements, orders....
During the internship the student should explore, how to transfer an Eclipse based software system that contains knowledge about variability just as implicit knowledge about configuration, in a prod-uct line. To make the variability and commonalities explicitly, the creation and adjustment of archi-tecture and decision models is necessary. As dominant architecture style, the Model View Control-ler Pattern should be implemented consequently and hierarchically in every subsystem of the appli-cation. The introduction of this architecture style creates clear defined dependence between the components. So the system can be expand structured in the future and the build and development of the application is much easier because of the defined dependence.
On the layer of implementation, mechanisms should be explored and applied, that can support the creation of different versions on code level. Mechanisms to make sure the variability, that can be deployed, are differently carefully built. In this case, the usage of the Eclipse Plug-in mechanism enables the creation of different versions on component level, but there are also other mechanisms useful like polymorphism, code generating or additive mechanisms like AOP or AHEAD, that can also support variability on method- and attribute level.

thank you very much for your help!

Hey!

In your text, you used "that" always as a relative pronoun. Since the relative pronound "that" can only be used in defining relative clauses (that means such that are important for the meaning of the sentence) there must NEVER be a comma in front of it.

The beginning of your text is correct. In the last paragraph there are two mistakes where you put a comma in front of that, but shouldn't have.

Hope that helps :-)
