I think, that it isn't possible to agree on children and career with each other in Germany.
In many regions in Germany it isn't possible, to putting little children at a day-care center, because such supports are not possible. And when the support is possible, there are long waiting times.
However, young couples who can't accommodate their children by grandparents or child minders, they are dependent on these facilities. In addition, the day-care centers are very expensive. When father or mother given up their job, they often cannot afford a support.
So more and more couples decide to do without children.

For many young couples in Germany today, having children is becoming increasingly out of the question. In the present economy, both parents generally must work to make ends meet. And this means someone else has to be found to watch the children while their parents are at work.
Some young working couples are able to have the grandparents help watch and take care of the children. But for those who are unable to enlist help from family members, the only real options are day-care or babysitters. But day-care centers and babysitters are prohibitively expensive and day-cares often have long waiting lists for admission.
