I'm sorry to know ... auf deutsch

Beitrag von Lelle »

Hallo zusammen,
in einer E-Mail erhielt ich heute einen Satz der mit "i'm sorry to know" beginnt.
Könnte mir jemand sagen wie der im deutschen zu verstehen ist?

Vielen Dank
Lelle

Simply a, typically, spoken expression which pretty much equals "I'm sorry to hear..."

Have you, beforehand, written about bad news, one could reply the following:

"I'm sorry to know... about your husband's renal failure."

And so forth, I wouldn't use it in written language, though.

Dear Niamh,

thank you for your answer.
The origin sentence is "I'm sorry to know the measure without a probe", and was sent by a japanese guy.
Even your example using the phrase "I'm sorry to know" makes no sense, in my opinion.
I think the japanese guy´s english is less good and only he knows what he wants to tell me.
I'think he means "I'm sorry but I don't know ..." and he used the wrong words.

Thank you and best regards
Lelle
