Trainspotting is a movie from the year 1996 directed by Danny Boyle, based on the novel Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh.
The movie is about a group of heroin-addict-friends, who live in Edinburgh.
Ewan McGregor who plays the main character, his name is Renton, is taking heroin but he also wants to stop and he often tried it, but he just can't.
His friends characters are also very interesting. There is Spud who is kind of a follower of the group, for example when Renton gave him ecstasy before his jobinterview.
And there is also Sick-boy. You could say that he is the most intellectuel one and he is not as addicted as the others are, because when renton tried so get clean Sick-boy also stopped taking heroin but just to annoy Renton and then there is Francis Begbie who doesn't take illegal drugs but he's an alcoholic and he is also very aggressive, he often starts fights even with his friends.
Renton met a girl in the disco .They slept with each other but she just told him later that she's 16 and that is illegal in Scotland. Then he said that he don't want to meet her anymore but she wanted to see him again so she said she would go to the police.
The last member of the group is Tommy who dislikes drugs, but at the end of the movie he dies of the consequences of drugs.
Now the actual act of the movie.
Renton and Spud had to appear in court because of drug abuse. He got acquitted but Spud had to go to jail.
And after he was clean he decided to go to London .He found a job there and he forgot about the drugs. But then his friend Spud, Sick-boy and later Begby visited him and they just stayed in his apartment.
They sold heroin for 16.000 pound.
But Renton decided to steal the bag with the money while the others slept. And that was the end of the movie.
On one side it shows how drugs can destroy your life and the life of others. In the movie Sick-boy and a girl which also lived with him had a baby. And it died because they just forgot about it, they don't even heared it screaming, because the were full of heroin and the effect of heroin lasts long.
And on the other side renton and his friends never were unhappy with their situation. The movie shows the situation how it was in Scotland at the end of the 80ies and that the society was just broken up .
You can't really say that the are friends because they did all those bad things to each other, but that is typical for that movie. At the end even renton forgot about his principles, because he chose the money, which is part of the life he was against at the beginning of the movie.
And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?
