Ireland
I'd like to start with the general information. Ireland is a small island with an area of 70.280km² three times less smaller than germany. The capital of Ireland is dublin. Other big or important cities are cork, limerick and waterford. In cork for example is the killarney national park. Ireland is splint subdivided into 26 counties. In ireland there live about 4 million people. More than 90% of the inhabitans are catholics. The first official language is english. The second language is irish which is a celtic language. And the currency is euro.
Geography
Now i want to start with my next part Geography. Ireland is surrounded of the atlantic ocean. The longest river is the shannown. The big largest sea with an area of 181km² it is called lough corrib. And furthermore there is the big wicklow mountain with a high of 900m.
History
My next part will be the history of Ireland. I will start with the 19th century. In the 19 century the irish people were blackmailed by rich english people. They must had to give all the corn and sheep wool to england. They had nothing to eat, because of this bad conditions they decided to emigrate. They went to america by ships. Lots of ships sank , because they were so old and broken. And so many people died and sank with the ships. So The population decreased from 8 to 4 million people!.
Culture
It is noted that the green portion of the flag was designed to represent the majority Catholic residents of the island, the orange side being the minority Protestant and the white middle part being peace and harmony between them. Well-known people from ireland are pierce brosnan a very famous actor who played james bond in some movies for example "Die another day or golden eye" chris de burgh a celebrated musician or u2 a rockband known by almost everybody. And Ireland is famous too for its stepdance groups. Michael flatley is one of the greatest step dancers. His 35 steps per second made him famous.
