One gloomy evening John was sitting alone at home. His parents went shopping. After a few hours they called and informed him unexpectedly that they would come home later because they had looked in on their friends. Since the boy didn’t enjoy being alone at home, he asked his best friend, Mike, to drop in. After Mike came round, the boys came up with a bloodcurdling idea. They snapped at the chance of not being supervised by their parents and decided to enter a haunted, abandoned, dilapidated house in which a ghost was told to walk. Many years ago an old man had committed suicide in this house. The boys plucked up their courage and opened a creaking door. Suddenly they felt as if they had been carrying out the most terrifying mission. While going upstairs, they heard some frightening noise coming from the second floor which freaked them out. They weren’t courageous enough to go on. They got into panic and started to run away. When they were just about to leave the house, the door turned out to be locked up. They vainly wanted to break through it. They screamed their guts out. Suddenly John noticed the handle of the entrance door going down as though somebody had been trying to open it. The lads were horrified; they didn’t know what to do. To their astonishment, it was John's father who was staring at them. Seeing him they were extremely overjoyed – they could finally breathe a sigh of relief. When John got into bed that night, he could hardly believe what had happened that day.
