MfG

1. First Entry:

The first time when I heard the title of our book “Fahrenheit 451” I had an association with the film “Fahrenheit 911”. At this moment I thought about the content of the film, there were words like “Bush”, “war” and “11th. September “ in my mind.
But shortly after, someone told me that “Fahrenheit 451” ranks among to the science fiction genre. Well, science fiction, but what is the topic about this book? Are there analogies to the films “Matrix” or “Men in Black”? I don’t really know, but I’m interested in to read it, because it’s the first time that there is a book which is absolutely different from other novels you discuss at school. I’ve never read a science fiction book in the English class before. I don’t remember me, there were only titles like “True West”, “Monster” or “The Graduate”.

After having read the spine of this book, I’m a bit confused about the content. Why are there men who have the ambition to burn books? This sounds very strange, because I can’t comprehend the sense of it. Actually firemen have to put out the fire instead to cause them. At the moment my motivation for “Fahrenheit 451” decreases. I can’t imagine that this novel deals with a gripping story. Therefore there isn’t any expectation of a fascinating book.

However I’ve read lots of novels at school which turned out well and I was pleasantly surprised about these books. Afterwards I don’t regret to review them in class and I would recommend some to other pupils.
For example in class 10 I read “Monster” written by Walter Dean Myers. This book deals with a sixteen-year old man who is on trial for murder. First I thought this would be a novel with a really cruel content. In addition to this it was painful to understand all the connections at the storyline. I found it after the first pages: there were too many vocabularies I didn’t know. At the beginning I hadn’t got any motivation to read it, but at the end, I liked the book. I didn’t expect that the story is such interesting. Furthermore step by step it was getting easier to read and understand the story.
Maybe “Fahrenheit 451” is also an interesting book and I’m only confused, about the strange topic. But I will see it….
