Flags of Australia and New Zealand

Hi,
I'm preparing a quiz for our users (Australia and New Zealand).

Australia has white stars on its flag, New Zealand has red ones. Does anybody know why the colours are different?

Hi George,

as far as I know (or rather found on the internet

) the australian stars are white for no particular reason - the flag was chosen through a a design competition in 1901.

The red stars on new zealands flag refer to
a) the crux/southern cross (constellation) or
b) the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand

I found contradictory statements.

The Australian flag just might be altered in the near future.

We don't identify ourselves with Britain anymore - so the Union Jack is quite outdated. And if we were to change the flag, the new design would acknowledge the Indigenous Australians.

Yeah, the silver fern would be awesome

After what I've got to know during the last few weeks, I'm actually quite impressed by New Zealand - especially the countryside. Bet I would've loved to live there.

I went to NZ when I was 10. That is such a beautiful, clean, lush country. Ooooh, I'll never forget Rotarua's smell - EGG FART!
