Question on a special term

Hey!

Sorry for disturbing but I have a question on a special term! If I were right, my grade would raise about 0,5! I want to say that slaves weren´t able to find out that the goings-on were unjust. Can I put it this way: ...and because slaves weren´t able to find out different they stopped resisting?

I might say:

Due to lack of education, the slaves could no of nothing better, so they stopped resisting.

Due to lack of education, the slaves could KNOW of nothing better, so they stopped resisting.

Irgendwie klingt das kömisch..... but that's America

I would say:

The lack of education meant that slaves were unaware of a different way of life, and so they stopped resisting.
