The phone rang. Darrel stood up from his bed hasty and hurried up to reach the phone quickly.
"Maybe it's Helen" he thought, but soon he discarded this thought, because the idea to get a consent after this refusal seemed very unlikely to him.
He answered the telephone and hoped secretly to hear Helen's voice.
Wrong! No Helen, no consent - just Eddie...
"Hey, what's up, Darrel?" he asked in his cheerful voice.
"Well, nothing special, nothing sensational, all the same..." Darrel was obvious irritated.
"Aren't you excited yet? Tomorrow is going to be the day, your big day!"
"Hmm" Darrel said.
"What's up? What has happened to you? You should be so happy! After all you're going to go to the dance with Helen. Helen Windsor! I would do anything to..."
"Oh, shut up! Helen won't go to the dance with me, she told me that her folks won't let her go!"
"Oh, well...err, okay...did you ask anybody else yet? Do you want to go to the dance with anybody else?" Eddie asked carefully.
"No I didn't. And I won't do at all!" Darrel said grumpy.
"Err...you don't want to go to the dance anymore, do you?"
"No" Darrel answered. "What should I do there alone?"
"Err...would you mind if...if I would go to the dance instead of you?" Eddie asked hesitating.
"Just as you like. Go to the dance, it's all the same to me..." Darrel grumbled, replaced the receiver and went to bed.
Tomorrow would have been his day.
Now it was going to be another day in the Ideal Supermarket...
