Simple past or present perfect with "always"

which tense is correct in the following sentences: "He hasn`t always taught German." or "He didn`t always teach German."

ich will sagen, dass ein Deutsch-Lehrer vor seinem Beruf noch etwas anderes gemacht hat, z.B. als Touristenführer gearbeitet.

before teaching german, the man has been working as a tourist-guide. (Bin mir aber nicht sehr sicher )

So wuerde ich es sagen...

Before he started working as a German teacher he HAD worked / had been working as a tourist guide.

Wenn du im before-Satz Simple past nimmst, musst du, um die Vorzeitigkeit auszudrücken im 2. Satz past perfect (progressiv - je nach dem, was du ausdrücken möchtest) anwenden.
