Hey,
Who can help?
what's correct???
We are going to get married
or
We are getting married?
I'm asking because my friend and I think that both ways are correct but I think that We are going to get married is the better way although I know that in movies and stuff people say we are getting married but I think it might be common speech isn't it?
Thank you and regards
Kleine

Hey kleine
That's a good question! Because the verb form of "We're getting married" actually isn't one used for expressing the future. Here we have the present progressive (-ing) form. Yet "We're getting married" has nearly the same meaning as "We're going to get married" which is built with the "going to future".
Exactly how the expression "We're getting married" has been created, I don't know since the average future form "We will/going to get married" is grammatically perfectly correct.
Therefore, I would agree with you that "We're getting married" could simply be common speech
.
I could imagine that there's also another reason behind it, the reason that the term "we're getting married" carries more enthusiasm and indignation than its grammatically correct equivalent.
But hey, that's just my mind leading me far too deep into this^^
Hope I could give you an answer... whatever *lol*
