Army voc...

Hello,

I've got to write a text about the army (recruit) life, the problem being that I don't have a clue about the army and couldn't even write about it in German, let alone in English, but very well... I hope someone could help me there, as wikipedia and leo aren't much use for once.

First, it'd be great to know the names of the most common ranks (and if possible, their hierarchical order *g*), especially the ones which recruits have to deal with usually. And how would you address them when taking their orders or explaining something: by their respective rank or just "sir"?

Second, what are the most common instructions/orders you get during your training (i.e. like "lie down", "crawl"... can you see now that I'm completely clueless? *g*)

Third: What is the translation of "Aufgebot"/"Einziehung"?

That's it for now, but I'm sure there's gonna be some (a lot) more. I'd be really, really grateful if you could help me.

Das war super, danke! Laut dem Cambridge Dix ist draft die genaue Entsprechung dessen, was ich gesucht habe. Also draft in am.eng. und conscription in brit.eng.

Sorry, dass ich nicht eher geantwortet habe, bin ein bisschen im Stress gerade.

Dann hast du das aber nicht richtig verstanden. Das hat auch nichts mit AE und BE zu tun. Das sind ganz verschiedene Wörter.

In den USA heisst es "enlistment". Du hast glaube ich den Beitrag von Cliff übersehen. Er hat das dort genannt. In den USA haben wir keine Pflicht zum Millitär zu gehen.

Dochdoch, das habe ich kapiert . Es ist nur so, dass ich beide Versionen brauchen werde, die "freiwillige" und die "unfreiwillige"... ist schwer zu erklären, aber ist ja auch egal.
