Hallo. :)

____________

Banana problem?

More than 6,2-million South Africans were infected by HIV last year. Nearly 20% of the 15-49 year old population are a victim of the disease. And there are more people, they don't know, that they were infected.

The cartoon shows the problem: AIDS is a big problem in Africa, a so-called banana problem. That means, there is no resolution in sight, isn't it? The facts say enough: South Africa ist the country with the most number of HIV carriers.

AIDS is a terrible threat facing the humanatiy, mainly in poor countrys in Africa or Asia. Is South Africa able to cope the problem?
AIDS is very different from other diseases, which usually decline with time. Not AIDS, the number of HIV carriers climb. But why?

AIDS hits young people mainly, and this means South Africas most productive section of the population can be affected. You must know, about 40% were under 25 years.
The people which were infected by HIV, must to be treat. Therefor the country need hospitals and doctors, but the money isn't available.

To stem the infections, South Africa has the mission to carry on education and prevention, because the problem is that the children of an infected Mother is infected, too. This could be prevented.
But AIDS acitivists criticized the government of South Africa, they wouldn't attempt enough measures against the diffusion of the deadly disease.
The politicans looked the other way, and the results of that were demonstrations by more than thousand people, which you can see on the cartoon.

With success: At april 2002 a revitalisation of the HIV/AIDS program was announced by the government. But South Africa must deal with other problems, too. The scare funds and advantages against the black people (the most HIV carrier are black) are just two of hundred.

But the courses for a good future were setted.

More than 6,2-million South Africans were infected by HIV last year. Nearly 20% of the 15-49 year olds are affected. And there are more people, who don't know that they are.

The cartoon clearly shows it:
AIDS is a big problem in Africa, a so-called banana problem. That means, that there is no solution in sight. The facts say enough: South Africa ist the country with the highest rate of HIV carriers.

AIDS is a terrible threat facing the humanatiy, mainly in poor countrys in Africa or Asia. Will South Africa be able to cope the problem?
AIDS is very different from other diseases, which usually decline with time. But AIDS does not, the number of HIV carriers is still climbing. But why?

AIDS hits mainly young people, and this means South Africas most productive section of the population is endangered. You must know, about 40% were under 25 years. (40% der Einwohner Südafrikas sind unter 25?)
People who are infected by HIV must be treaten. Therefore the country needs hospitals and doctors, but the money isn't available.

To stem the infections, South Africa has the mission to carry on education and prevention. Because children, whose mothers are diseased , are already also infected before they are actually born. This could be prevented.
But AIDS acitivists criticized the government of South Africa for not attempting enough measures against the diffusion of the deadly disease.
The politicans looked the other way (?) and the results were demonstrations by more than thousand people, as you can see on the cartoon.

With success: In april 2002 a revitalisation of the HIV/AIDS program was announced by the government. But South Africa has to deal with other problems, too. The scare funds and advantages against the black people (the most HIV carriers are black) are just two of hundred.(?)
