past simple question without did

Hi, I've got the following question: Is a sentence "Who broke the window?" correct? I've seen it in a book written by an English-speaking author so I assume it is. Why is there no auxilary verb? I would appreciate your answer.

At first: Welcome

It's right because it is a subject question (who) and in this case you do not use the auxiliary verb
