-ing Form (Gerund and Participle)

Beitrag von humbug »

Hallo Forum!

Ich bin gerade dabei, einer Bekannten bei der Vorbereitung auf eine Englisch-Klausur zu helfen und bin nun auf eine Aufgabe gestoßen, die mich etwas überfordert (offensichtlich sind meine Grammatik-Kenntnisse eingerosteter als ich dachte...):

Folgende Aufgabenstellung:

The -ing Form (Gerund) as a Subject and after Certain Expressions

Rewrite the following sentences beginning them with one of the phrases.

1. Nobody can say what will happen in the future.

2. You should have have a look round the local museum. I can recommend it.

...

Es sollen also diese Sätze umschrieben werden. Aber: Beginning with one of the phrases

Mir drängt sich die Frage auf: Which phrases

Kann mir jemand helfen und eine Musterlösung posten?

Vielen Dank!

2. You should have have[sic] a look round the local museum. I can recommend it.
"I can recommend having a look round the local museum." A sentence is a type of phrase, so the second sentence can begin my new sentence. 'Have' becomes the gerund 'having', which becomes the object of the verb phrase 'can recommend' and replaces the pronoun 'it'.
1. Nobody can say what will happen in the future.

Thank you very much. This exercise looks like a doodle now - seperate from no. 2. I didn't forget to include something here - but this one is the only one consisting of just one sentence.

Thanky you very much for your effort!
