I read a jok, but I can't see the point, would appreciate explanation:

A man takes his Rottweiler to the vet and says: "My dog's cross-eyed. Is there anything you can do for him?"

"Well," says the vet, "let's have a look at him." So he picks up the dog and has a good look at its eyes.

"Hmm," says the vet,"I'm going to have to put him down."

"Just because he's cross-eyed?" asks the man.

"No, because he's heavy," says the vet.

In diesem Kontext:

"einschläfern"

und

"absetzen" (im Sinne von "herunter nehmen" (oder ähnlich))


Daher das Mißverständnis in dem Witz!

"put down" ist toeten und auch herunter nehmen.. ein wort spielen.
ich habe es ist lustig denken.

The joke is a play on words. As mentioned previously, "to put down" can mean either "to put an animal to death" or in the physical sense it can mean "to return something to its initial place at a lower position". When the veterinarian says that he will have to put the dog down, he means that it's too heavy for him to hold at an elevated position for an extended period of time. The man is confused, because he thinks that the veterinarian feels it necessary to euthanize the dog. Personally, I didn't find the joke particularly funny.

Ich habe auch zwei mal gebraucht aber ist dann doch ganz lustig.
Hier mal eine Übersetzung, soweit ich es kann:

Ein Mann bringt seinen Rottweiler zum Tierarzt und sagt: "Mein hund schielt, können sie etwas für ihn tun?"

"Ich werde es mir mal ansehen", sagt der Tierarzt. Er hebt den Hund auf und sieht seine Augen an.

"Ich werde ihn EINSCHLÄFERN", sagt der Tierarzt.

"Nur weil er schielt?", fragt der Mann.

"Nein weil er schwer ist", sagt der Arzt.

Weil hund schwer ist will der Arzt ihn auf den Boden runtergeben.

Im Englischen:

put down --> EINSCHLÄFERN
put down --> Auf den Boden setzen

Mehr oder weniger ein Wortspiel.
