2. The 3 Branches of the US political system
The legislative branch
Is one of 3 power of a state. It has the power to adopt laws and it is also known as Congress. Its assemblies are debate and vote upon bills. It has two chambers or houses, the Senate and the House of Representatives. In Germany it is represented by the Bundestag and the Bundesrat.
Senate confirm is provided by 100 Senators who are elected for a 6-year term, one third are elected every two years.
House of Representatives has 435 members who are elected every two years. The higher population of a state is, the more Representatives it has in comparison to states with less residents.
The Legislature decides the spends of federal budget.
The judicial branch
There is a federal Supreme Court as well as supreme courts within most of the states. It is only intended for constitution. Its function is responsible for seeing that the Constitution is upheld and that laws that are made are allowed under the Constitution.
Supreme Court of the United States, whose has its domicile in Washington DC. is the final authority on the interpretation of the law and it is comparable with the “Bundesverfassungsgericht” in Germany. There are 13 US Courts of Appeals and 95 US District Courts.
The executive branch.
There is a President who is elected every four years and can hold office for only two terms. He is Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.

The judicial branch
The judicial branch is represented by courts. Of course, there are different kinds of courts with different influence, some for local and others for federal cases. There are 13 US Courts of Appeals and 95 US District Courts.
The utmost power in the judicial branch is the Supreme Court. Its competence is to make up decisions concerning the Constitution. The judges are supposed to pass judgement on cases in which the compliance with the Constitution is not guaranteed - and they have to check whether bills conform to constitutional requirements.
