Shakespeare - famous speeches

Hello!

I have doubts that anyone know what I am searching, but I will try anyway.

In our classes we discussed Shakespeare. The following plays may be the topic in our test:
- Henry V
- The merchant of Venace
- Julius Caesar

Probably the test will deal with a famous speech of one of those plays.
The following can't be in the test, because we have already discussed them:

- Henry's V speech before the battle against the French. He refers especially to honour.
- Julius Caesar: Antony's speech in Act 3 beginning with: "Friends, Romans, countrymen.." until "..that schould move the stones of Rome to rise and mutiny" in my book this is form line 72-227

Probably there were more....

I guess that he might take the merchant of venice, because I had the feeling that this play was very important to him.

do you know famous speeches in these three plays where I could practise on?

Beim 'Kaufmann von Venedig' tippe ich auf die große Rede Shylocks in III, i, in der er seine Rache an Antonio rechtfertigt. Es ist zwar keine öffentliche Rede wie die angegebenen aus den anderen beiden Stücken, aber ich wüsste in dem Stück keine bessere für Interpretationen. (Sogar Mr. Data aus Startrek - Next Generation hat Sätze aus der Rede in abgewandelter Form schon mal angebracht.)

Man kann diese Aussagen Shylocks aus verschiedenen Perspektiven immer anders diskutieren, so wie das im Laufe der Zeit auch immer wieder geschehen ist. Es wird ja nicht nur religiöse Intoleranz, sondern allgemeine Menschlichkeit ("If you prick us, do we not bleed?), Kapitalismus vs. Hilfsbereitschaft und noch vieles mehr angesprochen. Der kann ein testentwerfender Lehrer nur schwer widerstehen. ^^

@instep: kennst du dich damit aus? Ich verstehe nicht, was das mit "To bait fish withal:" bedeuten soll Außerdem verstehe ich nicht auf welche halbe Million er anspielt.
Und was bedeutet "villany"?

Achja....findet ihr in diesem Teil zufällig Imagery? Habs so jetzt beim Durchlesen nix entdeckt Naja, muss ncohmal schauen morgen.

Ja, genau diese Stelle meine ich.

"To bait fish withal" bezieht sich auf die vorherige Frage seines Gesprächspartners, was er denn bitte mit dem Fleisch Antonios machen wolle. Ich würde es mit "Taugt zur Not als Fischköder" übersetzen, weil hier die ganze Wucht seines Zorns und seiner Grausamkeit zum Ausdruck kommt. (Sein Gesprächspartner glaubt ja nicht einen Moment, dass Shylock seinen Anspruch wirklich durchsetzen will.)

Ich erinnere mich nicht genau, ob die halbe Million sich auf etwas Bestimmtes bezieht, aber man muss schon sehen, dass Antonio und Shylock Konkurrenten sind. In den folgenden Sätzen beklagt sich Shylock ja ganz allgemein, indem er Antonios bisherige 'Gemeinheiten' schildert.

Villany - äh, naja, villainy eben. Immerhin steht Shakespeare ziemlich am Anfang des modernen Englisch, da hat sich inzwischen einiges geändert. Es gibt für Shakespeare (auch für Goethe und viele andere) eigene Wörterbücher, die sich mit Bedeutungswandel, zeitgenössischen Anspielungen usw. beschäftigen.

Imagery. Wie? Du siehst hier keine Vergleiche? Keine Metaphern? Keine Bildhaftigkeit? Da aber noch mal genau hingucken!!! ^^
