The last sentence in the passage below is what I'm not sure about. I've given three somewhat similar loose translations of the basic idea I think is being expressed. Have I got it right?

...er kräftig von einem Maschinenmeister unterstützt wurde, der hoch erfreut war, nach so langen Jahren wieder etwas von Hans zu hören, war er doch sein Schüler an der Arbeiterbildungsschule in Berlin gewesen und hatte schon damals gesagt: "Auf den habt acht, aus dem wird nochmal was!"

1) Keep your eyes on that one, we will hear of him again one day!

2) Pay attention to him, something remarkable/distinctive/unusual is going to come from him!

3) Watch him, he's going to become something big!

In other words, the "Maschinenmeister" early on thought that Hans would later become an important person. Is that a correct translation of the essence?
