Is this possible?

'Alex suggested to meet the following day.'
Is this construction possible or would it literally mean to 'meet the day' (which wouldn't make any sense of course)
Thanks for your thoughts...

Hi Flexnow,

Yes, your suggested sentence is absolutely fine as it is. You could also say: the next day, i.e. Alex suggested to meet the next day.

It could.

But Keswick has already explained that your sentence is fine, because:

This is one of the funny things you get with languages that have a grammar that largely depends on positioning of words in a sentence. Sometimes things can have multiple meanings and you have to figure out what was meant from the context. It happens all the time in English which is one reason why English humor works so brilliantly with puns.

So, since these things happen all the time, English speakers always take context into account. "meet the day" doesn't really make sense most of the time, so nobody is going to assume that you really meant that. In fact, this is so unlikely, that if you wanted to express to meet the day you'd most likely have to clarify that by saying "meet with the day".
